Amidst the Creatures
About the Series
I was diagnosed with AuDHD well into adulthood, but the signs have been there since childhood. Before I could really connect with people, I made sense of the world through animals. They are more honest than us, they express precisely what they mean and do not complicate things through contradictory communication. Raising horses taught me how to be a mother. I can feel as much, if not more, kinship with a cat than with another human. There was only one period in my life when I was living without animals, and it was a hellish time. This series highlights animals that are misunderstood, unusual or forgotten. Through paint, even a creature as commonplace as a pigeon can be elevated to fine art. These animals rely on us, but are forced to share a world that is dying by our hands. It is my hope that Amidst the Creatures lets the viewer pause and be drawn to these beings as I have been.
